2013 Maxxam Award
Our 2013 Maxxam Award recipient is Jim Luong, PhD – the Associate Technology Director of the Analytical Technology Center at Dow Chemical Canada ULC. In his 32 year career at Dow, Dr. Luong has held a number of critical positions including R&D and manufacturing lead chemist. He was involved in the start-up of a number of world-class chemical plants at Dow.
As an analytical chemist, Dr. Luong practices a number of techniques such as inductively coupled plasma spectrometry, mass spectrometry, and is most passionate about chromatography. As a leader of the GC Center of Expertise in Alberta Operations, Dr. Luong leads Dow’s Global Gas Chromatography Technology Team with membership from Canada, USA, the Netherlands, Germany, and China. Some key areas of research include ultra-trace analysis, multi-dimensional gas chromatography, and differential ion mobility spectrometry.
About the Maxxam Award:
The Maxxam Award is presented annually to a scientist residing in Canada who has made a distinguished contribution to the field of analytical chemistry. The Award is available to candidates from government, industry and academia. Nominations and selections are overseen by the Chemical Society of Canada (CSC).
