Water Experiment Team
We are committed to inspiring the next generation to understand the impact science has on our everyday lives. Maxxam has established a volunteer water experiment team across Canada. Based on the experimental designs developed as part of the International Year of Chemistry (2011), we have customized “pH of the Planet” – an experiment focussed on acidity, one of the most common chemical properties encountered around the home. The topics of acids and bases, and water quality are common in both upper primary and junior high school.
Our water experiment team is comprised of volunteer laboratory analysts, scientific specialists and managers who are all trained to deliver an interesting class visit for students in grades 4 to 10.
Students are invited to work in pairs or small groups to measure the pH of water samples from a local natural source (river, lake, pond, well). They also measure the pH of some common household fluids. School visits are typically 1-hour per class and teams will only be scheduled on dates that ensure Maxxam’s laboratory operations can continue uninterrupted.
To inquire about the possibility of a school visit from our Water Experiment Team, please provide your contact information and suggested dates to: firstname.lastname@example.org. One of our regional champions will get back to you with more information.
