Responsibilities include:

o   Co-ordinates and designs Major Customer projects and applications;  Reports & interprets data to customer in defined manner

o   Ensures Data, Reports and Invoices are sent to clients to meet reporting commitments

o   Handles routine calls and those of a more technical nature regarding analytical methods and guidelines

o   Addresses enquiries of a technical nature from internal and external customers

o   Manages outsourced work (internal & external)

o   Responds to customer-identified non-conformances

o   Supports and complies with Maxxam policies, Quality System and Partners in Safety program. 

o   Resolves problems of diverse scope where analysis of situation requires a review of identifiable factors.  Exercises judgement within generally defined practices and policies when selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. 

o   Acts as a technical resource to junior personnel.  Normally receives no supervision on routine work, general instructions or new assignments. 

o   Performs method development and system optimization work in concert with experienced staff.

Ideal candidate will have:

o   Excellent customer facing skills; Ability to communicate effectively in a boardroom setting.

o   B.Sc./technical diploma or equivalent and minimum 5 years experience in an analytical setting with a preference to experiences gained in the Alberta oil sands industry OR post graduate degree (Masters / PhD) with studies focused on furthering Alberta oil sands science

o   Excellent knowledge of current laboratory practices, standard methods, processes and automation found in a petroleum testing laboratory  

o   Skills: customer service, open communication, mentoring, coaching, analytical mindset.  Dynamic, energetic,    motivated, positive outlook.

o   Software: The ideal candidate will be comfortable using MS Office with an emphasis on Excel.  Advanced experience is desired but not essential. 

o   Experience using Data Acquisition Software such as EZChrome, Chemstation, Peaksimple, or similar is beneficial.

• Enters sample information into LIMS, update client information databases and prepares final reports
• Enters all quotes from sales reps into LIMS

• Is able to perform all sample log-in activities and fully understands sample flow through the lab
• Comprehensive knowledge of provincial environmental regulations
• Prepares quotes up to $50,000 using established discounting practices.

  Qualifications:
• A level of education, which culminates with a certificate at a minimum or a diploma (preferred). This must be acquired through recognized educational institution in the field of study (e.g. SAIT)
• 5 years of experience

DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager in Calgary, the qualified applicant will be responsible for ensuring the Quality Assurance Program is effectively implemented at Maxxam’s Calgary location, and may be required to provide QA support to other Maxxam labs throughout Alberta.   Responsibilities include:

• Monitor Quality Assurance and Quality Control practices to ensure continual and effective implementation.
• Educate and train staff in the requirements of the company’s Quality Management System.
• Ensure the Quality System Tools are available and used.
• Encourage, identify and participate in continual improvement.
• Assist Internal Customers in addressing questions, concerns and stuck points with regards to quality practices.
• Liaison and coordinator for external QA requirements and process including accreditation requirements (including PTs) and client audits.

QUALIFICATIONS

• B.Sc. in Chemical, Physical or Biological Sciences OR Chemical Technology Diploma OR equivalent experience
• Minimum of five years’ experience in a laboratory environment
• Knowledge of quality assurance and quality control programs in a laboratory setting (ISO 17025).

QUALIFICATIONS [Minimum Requirements]:

Technical Diploma, preferably in Chemistry, Biology or Environmental related disciplines.  Previous Sales experience is preferred (1-2 years). Client Services or Environmental Lab experience is an asset. Experience working as a consultant considered a strong asset.
