The Canadian Urban Institute recently recognized the Bloom Centre for Sustainability with the 2011 CUI Brownie Award for Excellence in Communications, Marketing, and Public Engagement for their spring 2011 brownfield series which was held in: Hamilton, Waterloo, Kingston, North Bay, Montreal and Edmonton. The series was sponsored by Maxxam, along with FCM, Golder Associates, the Ontario government, Hazco and XCG.

More than 600 people attended the original six workshops, with representation from more than 50 local governments and community groups. Each event focused on understanding local challenges and opportunities of Brownfield redevelopment, and actions required to move forward. They also provided excellent opportunities to network, share perspectives, and exchange knowledge and innovative ideas amongst the wide variety of impacted stakeholders.

The Canadian Urban Institute’s annual Brownie Awards program recognizes leadership, innovation and environmental sustainability in brownfields redevelopment across Canada. The Canadian Urban Institute presented the awards at its annual Brownfields Conference on October 4, 2011. The Canadian Urban Institute is committed to promoting awareness and an improved understanding of opportunities to regenerate urban sites and neighbourhoods.

The International Sites and Spills Expo is the newest industry event dedicated to all elements of the HazMat and Site Remediation industries including a full conference program as well as a trade show. The International Sites and Spills Expo will bring together engaging speakers, expert panelists and key suppliers of products, services, technologies and equipment to hundreds of daily practitioners in the fields of spill response, fire fighting, HazMat management, environmental protection, development, restoration, contaminated site cleanup and soil/groundwater remediation.

The International Sites & Spills Expo – the first event of its kind to combine hazardous materials management and site remediation – comes together in an exciting two day event in the Canadian marketplace.  It takes place November 3 – 4, 2011 at the International Centre, near Pearson International Airport in Toronto, Ontario.

We are also hosting a hospitality event on Thursday evening from 7-10pm in the Ivor Petrak Room at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel.

The Remediation Technologies Symposium 2011 is the premier remediation technology transfer event for environmental professionals, encompassing the latest innovations in soil and groundwater remediation.

Bryan Chubb, Maxxam’s VP Business Development – Environmental Services, will be presenting on Friday, October 21st in the Shaughnessy Room (at 8:50am) on: “The Determination of PAHs in Groundwater at a Former Coal Gasification Plant Using Polyethylene Passive Samplers.”

RemTech 2011 provides a forum for industry experts to present leading edge technologies in the field of contamination remediation and industrial pollutant treatments. Co-sponsors and participating organizations include government, academic institutions, and private sector organizations active in site remediation, research and application.

Maxxam’s Quebec Environmental team is hosting our annual fall conference on Thursday, September 22nd, 2011, with a focus on analytical solutions relevant in the mining sector.
