Webinar: Breathe Easier – Asbestos Testing and Sample Submission
Speaker: Banu Gurgen-Keough, Supervisor, Asbestos Laboratory
On November 15, 2016, the Government of Canada announced a Government-wide strategy to manage asbestos in Canada including a full ban on Asbestos by 2018.
Once called the “Miracle Mineral”, asbestos was valued for its physical properties and used in a wide variety of everyday products commonly found in commercial, industrial and residential structures constructed before the 1990’s. Asbestos is a known carcinogen and although there is no significant health risks if the materials containing asbestos is tightly bound and left undisturbed this is not always the case. This webinar will provide knowledge about asbestos analysis including health risks associated with exposure, applications and importance of sample testing. This webinar will also provide an overview of the different analysis options for all fields of sampling including building and construction materials, insulation, air, water, dust and soil.
The webinar will be an interactive session and a recording will be made available to attendees for future training purposes.
