Atlantic region laboratories are thrilled to announce that they recently celebrated a momentous 2,000,000 working hours since their last lost time accident (LTA) in February 2001—over ten years ago.
“This is a remarkable achievement for Maxxam locations in Bedford, Sydney and St John’s”, says Paul Fewer, National Director for Quality, Environment, Health and Safety (EHS). “Maxxam maintains a strong health and safety culture that thrives on staff collaboration and performance. This results in a safe work environment for staff as well as accurate and timely data for customers.”
Jon Hantho, President and CEO joined the Atlantic team to celebrate this major health and safety milestone. “Their ability to detect and correct hazards before an accident occurs and their capacity to see colleagues home safely everyday, for over 10 years, is priceless,” said Jon.
North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) week just took place and Maxxam took this opportunity to renew their corporate responsibility. All 36 locations implemented a Health and Safety Wall and each staff member signed it to reinforce their personal commitment to the company’s “it starts with me” health and safety motto.
Lost time accidents in the workplace can be costly and time consuming. The Association of Workers Compensation Boards of Canada reports that 250-370,000 lost time accidents take place nationally each year, with 11-15,000 of those taking place in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
