Mississauga, ON. October 3, 2012. We are pleased to announce that Dr. Heather Lord has joined Maxxam as Manager, Environmental Research & Development, reporting to Dr. Terry Obal. Heather’s depth of knowledge and experience in analytical research and development, as well as environmental science make her uniquely qualified to manage Maxxam’s Environmental R&D team as they continue to focus on increasing analytical sensitivity, reducing time and costs for field work and improving overall site characterization.
Heather brings with her a wealth of experience in R&D planning, design and management; she has a successful track record in the execution of collaborative R&D projects. Heather has co-authored a technology patent, edited two books on Sample Preparation, has delivered over 30 conference lectures in the past 10 years and has published over 50 papers in refereed scientific journals.
Prior to joining Maxxam, Heather was a Research Associate in the Chemistry Department at the University of Waterloo. She managed all research activities carried out as part of the NSERC Industrial Research Chair for new analytical methods and technologies for sample preparation. (NSERC is the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.)
Heather completed her PhD in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Waterloo in 2005. At that time she was awarded a NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship and received Honourable Mention for the NSERC Innovation Challenge Award. Heather has worked extensively with Dr. Janusz Pawlyszyn who was her thesis advisor and most recently on his joint project with Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation on advanced water sampling and analysis techniques of which Maxxam is an in-kind supporter.
