Scientific evidence reveals that the Earth is warming. Rising sea levels, increased flooding, more variable and inconsistent weather patterns as well as water resource challenges are compelling challenges our planet now faces. To better understand and address these challenges, scientists across the globe are working together and applying their expertise to drive understanding and action.
Maxxam is pleased to announce its corporate involvement in the International Antarctic Expedition 2011. Working with global partners, we want to support the protection of Antarctica as the last unspoilt wilderness in the world, advance scientific knowledge and combat climate change.
Maxxam is sponsor to Tyler Barkhouse, Director of Environment at Focus Corporation and his wife Michelle, an educator. They join forces with four more Canadians connected to the Environmental Services Association of Alberta to make up Team Canada.
Led by Robert Swan, famous explorer and environmentalist who spearheaded the 2041 organization, Tyler and Team Canada will focus on: preparing a decommissioning report for an abandoned Russian research station, developing a remedial action plan for the cleanup of a large petroleum tank farm and investigating cold weather renewable energy technology.
“I commend Tyler and Michelle for their commitment to Robert’s Leadership on the Edge program,” says Jon Hantho, Maxxam’s President and CEO. “They will see and experience the impact of global warming close-up, but will also be responsible for educating and working with today’s challenging work environment to ensure a more sustainable future.”
Maxxam is Canada’s leader in analytical services and solutions. With scientific and technical expertise throughout Canada’s national network of laboratories, Maxxam is committed to success with responsibility. As partners in science, we serve businesses and government agencies in the energy, environment, food and DNA sectors.
