Jon Hantho, President & CEO of Maxxam Analytics is pleased to announce the appointments of two independent directors to Maxxam’s Board of Directors: Roger Thomas and Ian Troop. The addition of these two independent directors is consistent with Maxxam’s proud history and commitment towards excellence in corporate governance. In 2006, Maxxam was the overall winner of the Conference Board of Canada / Spencer Stuart National Awards in Governance. Mr. Thomas and Mr. Troop bring to the Board exceptional industry and leadership experience and will play a vital and contributing role to the long-term success and good stewardship of the company.
Mr. Thomas has over 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, including a 29 year career with Nexen Inc. where he most recently served as Executive Vice President, North America from November 2007 until his retirement on June 30, 2009. Mr. Thomas, a resident of Calgary, Alberta, attended both the University of Toronto and York University and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics/History. He is also a graduate of the Executive Program at the University of Michigan and is an honourary member of APEGGA. Mr. Thomas is a past Chair of the Alberta Chamber of Resources, past Chair of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP), past Chair of The Nature Conservancy of Canada (Saskatchewan Region), past Division Co-Chair for the Calgary United Way (Engineering, Energy Services Supply Division), past Director of The Adult Learning Centre, Ranch Ehrlo Foundation, The Calgary Science Centre, The Canadian Petroleum Hall of Fame Society and The Petroleum Technology Research Centre. He was a member of the Premier’s recent Carbon Capture and Storage Council and former Chairman of the Canadian Oilmen’s Executive Association. Active in industry and community associations, Mr. Thomas is currently the Chair of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and also serves as a Director of Careers: The Next Generation. More recently, Mr. Thomas was appointed to the Board of Directors of Flint Energy Services Ltd.
Mr. Troop has over 27 years of senior operating experience in the Consumer package goods industry in Canada and Internationally. Mr. Troop, a resident of Georgetown, Ontario, attended Wilfrid Laurier University and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration. Mr. Troop started his career with Proctor & Gamble, and for over 20 years held a progression of leadership roles of increasing importance in Canada, Mexico, Eastern Europe and the United States. More recently, Mr.Troop served as President of ConAgra Foods International, successfully building the International Operating Group into a Billion dollar business with major business units in Canada, Mexico, India, Latin America, Asia and Europe/ Middle East. Mr. Troop is the Past Chairman of AgroTech Foods Ltd (an Indian public company), past board member of Verde Valle (Mexico), Hunts-Universal Robina (Philippines), and Hunts – Chalkis (China). In 2006 and 2007 he was named by the Financial Post as one of Canada’s top CEO’s of the future. Currently, Mr. Troop is serving as the Operating Advisor for OMERS Capital Partners. He also serves on the Board of Give & Go Foods, The Wheels Group and is on the Advisory Board of the NHL Players Association. Mr. Troop is an involved community leader: He was named Wilfrid Laurier University’s Alumnus of the Year for 2009, and he is the Chair of a Georgetown community infrastructure project.
