Montreal, QC and Mississauga, ON – June 13, 2012 – Bryan Chubb, VP Business Development – Environmental Services, is pleased to announce that Maxxam is hosting renowned Isotope expert, Dr. Paul Philp who will be leading workshops for our customers in Montreal (June 19th) and Mississauga (June 20th).

Maxxam has a 20-year database of isotopic ratios from petroleum analyses in Western Canada and there is growing interest in applications for using stable isotope ratios in the environmental and forensic geochemical fields. Maxxam is sponsoring these workshops to ensure that our customers are able to get an introduction to this emerging field of analysis, and begin to explore how this analysis may apply to their contaminated site remediation projects.

Dr. Philp will present an introduction to stable isotope geochemistry and applications to various environmental problems, with specific emphasis on applications directed towards monitoring source and attenuation of volatile compounds. The increasing interest in vapor intrusion studies provides another extremely important application for stable isotopes that will be reviewed as well.

For more information or to register, please click: June 19 (Montreal/Ottawa) or June 20 (Mississauga). Registration for the workshops is $195/person and certificates of completion will be issued for 4 hours of continuing education credits where applicable. NOTE: Both workshops will be delivered in English.

ABOUT DR. PHILP:
Dr. R. Paul Philp is Professor of Petroleum and Environmental Geochemistry at the University of Oklahoma. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Sydney, Australia in 1972 and a D.Sc. from the same University in 1998 on the basis of his research in geochemistry over the past 20 years. Prior to starting at the University of Oklahoma, Dr. Philp was a Principal Research Scientist, C.S.I.R.O., Sydney, Australia.

His current research interests centre around petroleum, environmental and forensic geochemistry with an emphasis on molecular and isotopic characterization of oils, gases, rock extracts and contaminants for the purposes of source determination, characterization of depositional environments, maturity, biodegradation and for correlation purposes. He has authored or co-authored over 340 articles and books and has lectured extensively on petroleum and environmental geochemistry across North America and in SE Asia, South America, Europe and Africa.
