Maxxam Director Elected President of the Association of the Chemical Profession of Ontario

Mississauga, ON, June 12, 2012 – We are pleased to announce that Dr. Terry Obal, Maxxam Analytics’ Director of Scientific Services and Development, has been elected for a 2-year term as President of the Association of the Chemical Profession of Ontario (ACPO).

In his keynote address at the ACPO’s Annual General Meeting on June 1, 2012, Dr. Obal assured the audience of his focus on maintaining the highest standard of practice among professional chemists in Ontario. He also emphasized that he will continue to support the drive toward licensure and the regulation of the chemical profession in Ontario, an important aspect in safeguarding the health and well-being of the public and the environment.

About Dr. Terry Obal
Terry Obal, Ph.D., MCIC, C.Chem provides strategic oversight of all Maxxam’s Environmental R&D projects. He has a Ph.D. in Chemistry and is a Chartered Chemist under the Association of
the Chemical Profession of Ontario (ACPO). He is a member of the Chemical Institute of Canada, a member on the National Committee on the Chemistry Profession Canada (CPC), and a member of the SCC working group for Test Method Development, Evaluation and Non-Routine Testing. Dr. Obal represents Maxxam with a number of key industry associations, including ONEIA.

ABOUT ACPO
The Association of the Chemical Profession of Ontario is a member-based organization representing professional chemists in Ontario. The ACPO was first constituted in 1963 by provincial act and in 1984 the provincial government granted its members exclusive use of the title “Chartered Chemist”. The Association works with its members to meet the needs of the profession and maintain high standards of conduct. Membership in the ACPO is regulated by the Board of Examiners which assesses the qualifications of individual candidates.

ACPO sets strict standards of academic achievement and work experience for its members, and monitors its members’ professional and ethical conduct to ensure the safety and welfare of the general public.
