UPDATE (November 19, 2013)
In response to the incredible generosity of Maxxam employees, who have to date raised over $7000 in support of the victims of typhoon Haiyan, Maxxam announced today that it will increase its employee matching commitment by an additional $5000. This brings our total donation to typhoon relief efforts to date to $24,000.
Mississauga, ON. November 11, 2013 – In response to the daunting relief efforts faced by the Philippine islands in the aftermath of typhoon Haiyan, Maxxam committed today to a $10,000 corporate donation to the Disaster Relief Fund of the Canadian Red Cross. The company will also match individual employee donations to any of the major charities working in the area.
Jon Hantho, Maxxam’s President & CEO, says: “Many of our employees are personally affected by the typhoon and our thoughts are with their families and friends in the Philippines. Maxxam has a strong history of rallying around communities in need, and I know that our employees will be generous in their support.”
With the Government of Canada having just announced that it will also match donations of individuals to typhoon relief, Hantho hopes that Maxxam’s efforts will inspire other companies to offer similar donation programs.
