Confirmation of Successful Artificial Insemination – Sire verification of calves to confirm successful insemination of a dam by the selected sire.
Quality Control – To provide verification of the effectiveness of established quality control protocols, testing of semen straws can be used to confirm animal identity. Testing semen straws for quality control purposes can provide AI companies with the ability to assess the suitability and effectiveness of QC protocols, and ensure these are adequate to meet their needs.
Confirmation of Sex Sorting – Confirmation or detection of sex sorted semen samples is another testing service of value to the AI industry. Currently, sex sorted semen samples command a significantly higher price; therefore ensuring that customers are receiving successfully sorted semen is of value to the AI industry. Confirmation that a semen sample has been sex sorted may be accomplished through the detection of fluorescent labels used during the sorting process. Also, real-time PCR can be used to determine whether a semen sample contains X and Y sperm in equal proportions (indicative of an unsorted sample), or whether the sample predominantly contains one or the other gender (confirming a sex sorted sample).
